Experience the sublime restoration of historical gem.
Sundy Roça Hotel is a sight to behold. A former late-17th century portuguese cocoa plantation in the heart of african rainforest, Sundy is now a hotel of character blending history and nature. Entirely renovated the hotel is a jorney throught time where nothing is left to chance. Old portuguese archicteture can be found in details. Old stones mix modern materials and sparingly added dots of color are revealed by tricks of the lights.
Within its walls sits an impressive courtyard, 15 suites and a new restaurant which offer locally inspired cousine and farm-to-table ingredientes. Walking through the front door, guest are typically welcomed by the front desk manager - and all the staff greet you with smiles. Check-in is quick and seamless.Within ten minutes you'll be tucked away in your suite, likely with gorgeous views over the courtyard or the coast.
History
Until 1975 the Plantation Roça Sundy was privately owned by the Portuguese company Sociedade Agrícola Sundy, Lda, headquartered in Lisbon. After that, it was nationalized and became a state-owned company, called Empresa Agropecuária de Sundy.
Sundi is a plantation that was once the home of the Portuguese royal family on the island of Príncipe. In this garden, besides the main house still furnished and decorated, there are cocoa and coffee plantations, a large hospital, a chapel and traces of railways for the locomotives that transported the cocoa.
This plantation is still home to hundreds of workers and is also the place where Arthur Eddington proved Einstein's Theory of Relativity during a total eclipse in 1919.
