Discover the Living History of São Tomé and Príncipe’s Roças
We’re a heritage interpretation initiative dedicated to celebrating and preserving the extraordinary legacy of São Tomé and Príncipe’s roças.
These historic plantation estates, scattered across the islands, are more than architectural relics. They are living witnesses to a complex, multicultural past — where African, European, Asian, and South American influences converged in a single tropical archipelago. We believe the roças belong on the world stage, rightfully standing beside global landmarks like Machu Picchu, the Great Wall of China, and the Eiffel Tower.
That’s why we proudly support the initiative to nominate the roças of São Tomé and Príncipe as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These are not just forgotten colonial outposts — they are epicenters of global history, cultural exchange, and resilient communities.
Our mission is to ensure that even as time wears away bricks and beams, the stories embedded in these landscapes are not lost. By visiting, learning, and sharing, you help keep this heritage alive.
Explore the roças. Walk their paths. Listen to their echoes. And be part of a journey that connects continents, generations, and identities.
