Until 1975 the Rio de Ouro Plantation was privately owned by the Lisbon headquartered Companhia Agrícola Vale Flor who also howned Diogo Vaz, Bela Vista e Valle Flor in Santo Amaro and Boa Esperança e Nova Estrela in Trindade. After that, Rio de Ouro state was nationalized and became a state-owned company Empresa Agropecuária Agostinho Neto.
